Minor update 1.0.86 ·
Harvesting no longer needs a tool: the profession and its level are enough. Tools are now an upgrade instead: five craftable tiers, each with 2 or 3 random gathering bonuses, rare finds for every gathering profession, gathering runes and a reworked Professions panel.
Every gathering profession
Harvesting now needs only the profession and its level. Lumberjack, Miner, Farmer, Alchemist and Fisherman work without a tool in hand; a tool of the profession only adds gathering bonuses. Hunters are unchanged.
Profession levels 20 to 100
Every gathering profession gets five crafted tools: Sturdy, Fine, Superior, Masterful and Legendary. A tool counts only for its own profession, only in your weapon slot, and only once your profession reaches the tier's level.
Basic (any level)
Sturdy (level 20)
Fine (level 40)
Superior (level 60)
Masterful (level 80)
Legendary (level 100)In brackets: the chance that a new copy of that tier carries the stat. Every copy has two stats, and the "third stat" chance adds one more.
Harvesting only
Gathering stats work only for the tool's own profession, while the tool is in your weapon slot. They are never added to your characteristics and never change your fights.
More resources per harvest, on top of your level yield bonus. It also counts on the Frigost resources, which have no level bonus. At most +100%.
A chance to double a harvest, after Yield. The rarest stat. At most 10%.
Shorter harvests. At most -40%, and a harvest never takes less than 1 second.
Raises the chance of rare finds and resource bags (and of Active Fishing's rare fish): +20% Keen Eye turns a 1% chance into 1.2%. At most +200%.
More profession experience per harvest. Harvests only: crafting experience is unchanged. At most +100%.
Extra pods while the tool is equipped. At most +2,000 pods.
Every gathering profession
A successful harvest can now also give a rare item, at most one per harvest. The chances below are the base chances; Keen Eye raises them. The resource level is the profession level the resource needs.
Keen EyeSmithmagic and Runecrafting
Improve a tool with gathering runes: Yield, Swiftness, Keen Eye and Lore runes and their Pa runes, Pod Saver runes in three grades, and the rare Bountiful rune.
Flax and Hemp
Flax and Hemp can be harvested by a Farmer and by an Alchemist. If you know both professions, one click on them harvests:
Choose in the Professions window: open Farmer or Alchemist, and the box under the skills has a Gather as row per resource with Farmer, Alchemist and Ask. The server keeps your choice for this character. Every other resource is harvested in one click. Hold Shift for the menu.
Professions window
Under the skills of a learned profession, the box that only asked you to equip a tool now sums up the profession at your level. Scroll it with the mouse wheel or its scrollbar.

To learn any specialisation you now need Runecrafting level 30 besides its base craft at level 65 (for example Runecrafting level 30 and Sword Smith level 65 for the Sword Smithmagus). Specialisations you already know are kept. Runecrafting is free to learn from Hel Munster at [-5,-12].
Already in the game
None of this is new in this update, but it all makes gathering and crafting faster. Every detail is in the in-game Knowledge Base.
While you harvest, click the next resources: up to 30 are queued, each marked with a blue number. Walking elsewhere, changing map, a fight or Escape clears the queue.
Each harvest gives 1 to 2 resources, +1 to the maximum per 5 levels above the resource's level, and +5 on both ends at level 100. On top of that, the yield bonus: +1% per 4 levels and +10% at level 100, +35% in total.
Switch Fisherman to Active in the Professions panel: strike when the fish really bites and reel it in for about 1.5 times the haul, a chance at the spot's rarest fish and bonus experience.
Resource protectors never attack. Each successful harvest has a 1% chance to give the bag of that resource instead: 10 to 20 resources.
The world map's Resources panel shows where every resource grows, on the minimap too. The Gathering tab counts everything your account has harvested.
Crushing equipment is a free profession taught by Hel Munster at [-5,-12], with Runic Dust, Focus Seals and rune fusion.
Switch on Use bank or Use Haven chest and missing ingredients come from them, at any workbench. What can I craft? lists your recipes, and up to 6 pinned recipes track your ingredients.
Workbenches need no tool, repeated crafts are done in one step and pods never stop a craft. A craft's experience is shown before you craft, with the server rate included.
Professions are shared by all the characters of your account, with no limit on how many you learn (a new base profession needs the ones you know at level 30; Runecrafting never counts). Level 100 earns a Master title for every character.
Questions
No. Every gathering profession harvests with empty hands; a tool only adds gathering bonuses. Only the Snapper spot still needs its rod, and Hunters still need a hunting weapon until they are master hunters.
They keep working as basic tools: each one now gives +2% Yield, and rods keep their longer fishing reach. Nothing needs replacing.
No. The six gathering stats are never added to your characteristics and only count while you harvest with that profession's tool in your weapon slot.
A tool's bonuses count only once your profession reaches the tier's level (Legendary: level 100). The Tool and harvest box of the Professions panel tells you which level it needs.
No. The Runecrafting level 30 rule only applies when you learn a new specialisation.
The launcher updates your client automatically the next time you open it. Nothing to reinstall.
Grab nothing but your profession and head out. When you are ready, ask an Axe Smith, Hammer Smith, Staff Carver or Tailor for your first Sturdy tool.
