Eliotropes open portals on the battlefield, cast their spells through them for extra power and send allies and enemies across the network. Portal master, Air, Water, Earth and Fire, playable from level 1.
Passive: Portals
Place
Portal (level 3) places one of your team's portals on a free cell with no trap and no other portal. A team has at most 4 portals, even with two Eliotropes: a new one replaces the oldest.
Link
Your team's open portals form a network once there are 2 of them. Portals are numbered 1 to 4 by age and take your team's colour.
Cast
Cast a spell on an open portal and it comes out of the exit, with more damage and healing.
Travel
Walk, get pushed or get teleported onto an open portal and you come out of the exit.
The portal network
How portals work
From the portal you use, the network goes to the nearest open portal, then the next nearest, until every portal has been visited. The last one is the exit. When two portals are just as far, the older one comes first.
Swipe sideways to see the whole network.
An example: you cast on portal 2. The network visits the nearest portal each time (1, then 4, then 3), so portal 3 is the exit. The spell lands on the cell as far from the exit, in the same direction, as portal 2 is from you.
Casting through a portal
Cast a spell on an open portal (with nobody on it) and it comes out of the exit, on the cell the same distance and direction from the exit as the portal is from you.
Your range, line and line of sight count up to the portal you target; line of sight must also go from the exit to the landing cell.
Spells cast through the network deal and heal more: the Portal rank bonus (+15% to +28%) plus 2% for each cell between the portals of the network.
Areas, pushes and pulls start from the exit. Damage that lands at the end of a turn keeps the portal bonus of the cast that caused it.
Travelling through portals
Walk onto an open portal: your walk stops there and you arrive on the exit. The rest of your path is dropped, your MP are kept.
Pushed or pulled into a portal: you arrive on the exit, then the rest of the push or pull goes on from there in the same direction.
Teleported onto a portal: you arrive the same distance and direction from the exit as the portal is from the one who teleported you.
After a trip, the two portals used close until the next fighter's turn starts. A portal cannot be used while its exit is taken.
Swaps, carries and throws never travel, and Gravity and Rooted fighters never travel.
Portals are for everyone
Every class, every monster
Portals are a battlefield mechanic, not only an Eliotrope trick. Everyone can stand on them, and everyone can use them.
Every class can cast through portals
Every class can cast through any portal, allies' and enemies' alike, as many times as it likes: casting never closes a portal.
Weapons never go through, and Neutral always targets the portal itself.
During the first round of a fight, enemies (not summons) cannot travel through your team's portals.
A portal disappears when its Eliotrope dies. Portals are not obstacles: everyone can stand on them.
Monsters use portals too
Monsters and summons walk into a portal when it gets them to their target this turn (and walking would not), saves them at least 1 MP, or leaves them at least 2 cells closer.
They travel at most twice a turn and never go back through a portal they came out of.
They never cast spells through portals.
Turrets and bombs
Turrets and bombs only travel when they are pushed or pulled.
The spell book
22 spells and a Dopple
You start with one attack per element and get Portal at level 3. Several spells change when they are cast through a portal. Select a spell to see all its ranks on the Classes page.
Pick the Eliotrope on the character creation screen. Your three colours change the hood and the trousers or stockings, the hair and the tunic, on the portrait and on your character alike.
Your own room in Incarnam
New Eliotropes start in their own room in Incarnam, under their statue.
The statue in Astrub
The Eliotrope statue stands at [3,-18], on the fenced lawn of the park, and is marked on the world map and the minimap. The Ganymede in Incarnam takes you to it, and the statue sends you back to your room.
Temple and mounts
Eliotropes follow the Xelor temple. They ride Dragoturkeys like every other class, with their own mounted look.
The in-game Knowledge Base has a full Eliotrope article, and the Classes page lists every spell with all its ranks.
Updates 1.0.67 and 1.0.68
Also in this update
A few more improvements arrived with the Eliotrope and the update just before it.
Monster stars in real time
Monster groups that nobody fights earn stars, a bonus to the experience and the drops of the fight against them, counted in real time since the group appeared.
The stars on the map update by themselves while you watch; you do not have to wait for a server save.
A group you fight keeps the bonus it had when the fight started.
Faster and clearer
The achievements and professions menus open faster.
The Professions panel shows the right harvest range for each skill.
New in 1.0.67
/timeplayed (or /played) shows how long you have played this character and your whole account.
Ensembles: save what you wear and your characteristic points, and put them back in one click (10 per character).
Favourite items: a favourite cannot be crushed, sold, destroyed or dropped.
Hold Y to highlight everything you can use on the map; press T to see the map's fight layout.
Mimisymbics give one of your items the look of another.
